Rayon or viscose is a manufactured and regenerated man-made cellulosic fiber . Cellulose comes from wood or cotton fibers treated with chemical processes.
Rayon is a very versatile fiber and has the same comfort properties as other natural fibers and can mimic the feel of silk , wool , cotton , or linen . Rayon fabrics are soft, lightweight, cool, comfortable, and highly absorbent, yet they do not insulate the body, allowing perspiration. Therefore, they are ideal for hot and humid climates. Depending on their presentation, a distinction is made between so-called filament rayon and short-staple viscose . When burned, this type of fiber gives off a burnt-paper smell, which is characteristic of cellulose-based fibers.
